Description:
Virtual Open Studio has had many homes since its inception in 2016. Originally started as museum programming by Jen Polillo, former Director of Education at The Delaware Contemporary, then run out of Polillo’s home, and most recently transitioning to an online format due to the Covid-19 pandemic gathering restrictions. Jen’s mission was to provide the time and space for local artists to come together to make art and build community.
In person, artists would have been in every corner of the room, painting a still life set up alongside others working on independent projects, enjoying each other’s company and real-time feedback.
Online, they meet weekly via Zoom using a private Facebook group to have discussions, post in-progress work, provide and receive constructive criticism, and support one another.
This community has been a vital source of inspiration, accountability, and most importantly a point of connection for the participating artists represented here. What started as artists making art together has become artists, apart, making art together.
